Rajasthan minister’s ‘dadi’ jibe at Indira Gandhi sparks uproar in assembly

by admin

The Rajasthan Assembly voiced a significant outcry when Social Justice Minister Avinash Gehlot referred to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as “Tumhari Dadi,” or “your grandmother,” during a session on Friday. This comment resulted in the suspension of six Congress MLAs for the remainder of the budget session. Among the legislators who have been suspended are Sanjay Kumar, Ramkesh Meena, Hakam Ali Khan, Zakir Hussain Gesawat, and Govind Singh Dotasra, the chief of the state Congress.

The controversy was sparked by India Minister Gehlot’s response to a Question Hour question about a government hostel program. In response, he stated, “As always, you named this scheme after your grandmother Indira Gandhi in the previous budget (2023-2024).”

This comment was interpreted as disrespectful by Congress members, which led to immediate protests within the assembly.

To demand that the suspensions be lifted immediately and to protest the suspensions, the affected Congress MLAs staged a sit-in inside the assembly building. They expressed their disapproval of the minister’s remarks and the subsequent disciplinary action by remaining seated on the assembly floor late into Friday night.

The incident, as reported by THE TIME OF INDIA, has heightened political tensions in the Rajasthan Assembly, highlighting the delicate nature of political references and the expected decorum in legislative discussions.
